Mechanical Design Engineer – Manufacturing

Job Responsibilities

Focused on designing and building mechanical and electromechanical manufacturing equipment, fixtures and tools that will improve manufacturing processes, automate labor intensive processes, reduce production cost and/or improve product quality. Apply standard and accepted engineering principles in equipment design. Develops equipment test specifications and methods.

Job Duties

  • Ability to evaluate manufacturing processes and design equipment that improves those processes
  • Initiate or complete equipment/fixture/tool projects to a finished state and released for regular use
  • Assess project requirements, including developing statements of work and project design reviews
  • Measure the performance of mechanical components, devices and materials
  • Develop budgets, project timelines and specifications
  • Oversee and support ongoing equipment maintenance
  • Design control systems for mechanical projects
  • Liaising with suppliers, machine shops, consultants and contractors
  • Undertake relevant research to better design equipment and/or optimize manufacturing processes
  • Produce and implement design and operation procedures
  • Ability to professionally present designs to managers and customers
  • Testing, evaluating, modifying and re-testing products, including designing bench testing
  • Writing reports, documentation, drawings and equipment BOMs
  • Periodic travel to Mexico manufacturing operation will be required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Mechanical Design Engineering
  • Bachelor or Masters Degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Solidworks expertise is a must
  • Knowledge of machine shop practices, ability to operate mill, drill press and other similar tools
  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical ability
  • Understands manufacturing methods and procedures
  • Experience/training in quality assurance
  • Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) (desirable)
  • Experience with Microsoft productivity software
  • Controls Hardware (Arduino, NI, PLC, other)
