Senior System Engineer

Tempronics’ is a growth stage technology company that uses traditional solid-state thermoelectric elements (TECs) in an innovative new way and featuring distributed heating and cooling along a Tempronics’ Climate Ribbon.  Applications include automotive, motorcycle and commercial vehicle seats, bedding, cooling vests and a variety of other uses.  Tempronics growth is dependent on employing a dedicated team of talented individuals who want their efforts to have a positive impact on the company’s customers and partners.

Job Responsibilities

As a Sr. System Engineer, the ideal candidate will have a strategic/big picture perspective of all aspects of the Tempronics climate system design to delivery effective thermal performance and/or comfort and addressing specific user/customer needs. In addition to the system level perspective, the candidate will have a detailed understanding of the core thermoelectric/Peltier-effect Climate Ribbon in order to optimize the mechanical packaging for thermal performance and comfort. The candidate will be responsible for system level design of our digital control system and algorithm development.  In addition, the ideal candidate will have experience in the human/physiological capability of the system relative to user comfort and performance expectations.

Job Duties

  • Design and/or supervise electronic engineering projects involving integration of electronics with mechanical systems.
  • Lead and/or conduct research on driving and controlling thermoelectrics in a wide variety of applications.
  • Work with product management to conceive, design and specify the system level and the electronic portions of new product development.
  • Provide technical leadership to the organization. Guide and mentor junior engineering team members in electrical engineering projects as well as more general engineering design projects.Work with team to establish thorough project plans for product development programs and all deliverables.
  • Provide advanced engineering support in transitioning designs to manufacturing including defining manufacturing test requirements.
  • Support the manufacturing engineering organization in the development of manufacturing test equipment.
  • Lead our controller product development. Manage requirements (functional, statutory, industry, etc.) while driving cost and quality.
  • Represent the company with customers and key suppliers ranging from understanding product requirements, to joint engineering efforts, to problem resolution, to field support.
  • Play a key role in technical problem resolution, either as the problem owner, or as an advisor to the team.
  • Contribute/lead efforts in meeting production introduction methodologies (e.g. 8D, DFMEA, PFMEA).
  • Contribute to annual product planning and budgeting efforts.
  • Author technical papers, industry publications, and social media updates that describe the competitive advantages of our product and expand the various marketplaces awareness of how thermal comfort can expand the value of their offerings considering evolving customer requirements and expectations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BSEE or similar bachelor’s degree with significant experience in electronics design.
  • Experience with microcontroller-based embedded systems desired.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience.
  • Team building skills including leadership, mentoring, product development, product design, test & qualification, project management, problem solving, failure mode & root cause analysis, and statistics.
  • Experience in the transportation industry desired. This includes their development processes, terminology, templates, and quality processes.
  • Strong track record of delivering new products, on time and with high quality
  • Project Management Institute certified or experience desired
  • Experience with Microsoft productivity software
  • Skills in appropriate engineering design, analysis and simulation tools
  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical ability

Location: Tucson, AZ with frequent travel to Agua Prieta, Mexico
